Interesting how much performance is lost when you use the recommended settings. My 13900K in a Gigabyte Aorus Master Z790 motherboard, with the 'unlimited' settings would hit 212 degrees but achieved ~41,000 in Cinebench R23, even with some thermal throttling. The total system draw was ~600W! Now, with the recommended settings, just like in this video, my score dropped to ~32,000. Temps stay below 170, but CPU power still peaks around 255W, total system power is ~450W. A massive loss in performance for lower temps and a small power savings. With the recommended settings, my system (13900K, 64GB of 6400MT/s Corsair RAM, Gigabyte RTX 4080, Corsair ICUE H150i triple AIO water cooler) still idles over 200W. Pathetic.
I was one of the first to build a 13900K system in 2022. Since then, I've had nothing but problems - tried multiple motherboards, power supplies, RAM, BIOS upgrades, ME updates - still had crashes, BSOD's and random USB disconnect issues. I finally RMA'd the CPU under warranty and now the replacement CPU is starting to have random USB issues. I can undervolt the CPU and basically turn it into a Core i7 (25%+ performance loss) with the recommended BIOS settings, which fixed the stability and temperature issues, but I STILL have random USB disconnects. Meanwhile, my second system, a Core i7 12700k has been rock solid, not a single issue. I'm 100% done with Intel - switching to AMD Zen 5 when they're released.
I literally set everything to auto, turned off expo, and set the speed to 60 and it works fine for me. These setting would just blue screen my pc. Gskill flair 2 sets of 2*16gb cl30. Gave up and reverted all the settings but forgot to turn off the manual input of 60. Worked fine and noticed I had 6000 mhz.
Is this card GC-Maple Ridge Thunderbolt 4 compatible with the Gigabyte X570 Aorus Master? I already have the Titan Ridge Thunderbolt 3 pcie card but have heard there is a compatibility issue. Can you confirm or deny this? I'd really like to replace my Thunderbolt 3 card with the newer GC-Maple Ridge card and Im trying to postpone an entire system upgrade!
It's possible it will work but it's not officially supported. Only the Titan Ridge card is officially supported on that platform.
Are those score FSR or DLSS based?
Yo I just tried this and now my pc just won’t turn on anymore, it powers up and everything and I see my mouse and keyboard lights turn on but it is just stuck on a black screen and no matter how long I leave it or how many times I try to turn it back on or enter bios it does not work. Anyone have an idea of how to fix this issue
I'm from Korea. Thank you so much for this video. It took me such a long time and work until I found your video. I built my PC with i9 13900k back in December 2022. I started having this problem in May this year. I've been using my PC without tweaking PL1 & PL2 for over a year. With you help, I don't have the same problem any more. Thank you again so much for your help.
I just wanted to come by and say thank you very much for this video. I built my own PC, one of several I have built and had not had an issue with it until recently when I started doing some graphics work with upscaling large images and doing a lot of editing etc. My GPU would start running fans like crazy, screen went blank and I had to restart. I thought maybe was the vid card - a MSI 2060 I have had for 3+ yrs so I grabbed a ASUS 4060 TI and figured I could move the other to another machine with an older card if it were not its fault. I figured I would start with the easiest before starting to check paste, looking at coolers and PSUs. My CPU is a 13900K I have a ARCTIC Liquid Freezer II 420, a 1000Watt PSU. Z690 GAMING X DDR4. New GPU seemed better but then it started again tonight. This time I got critical CORE warnings and a shutdown warning commenced. I then vaguely recalled techies like you running cinebench etc and talking power limits when this CPU was new. I had not ever had issues, I am not a gamer and so I did not have a need to change settings. Well I made the changes you suggested, ran a ridiculously gigantic image as a 4x upscale and no issues. Core temp flashed yellow for hot once ever so briefly but no red, no warnings and I am hoping this is it. Thank you!
Skipped the entire power connectors all together.
Honestly, thank you so much. Subbed. I greatly appreciate the details, comparisons, and examples. You're getting a lot of love in the comments for a reason. I got screwed on my previous build by not knowing the lane compromises I was making, and once I started using every expansion slot, I really noticed. Thank you again, keep it up!
So... this means that optimal memory for this is ddr5 4000Mhz -> eg. 2000Mhz with super low latency
Great worked for me !! Thanks!!
I just built my new gaming PC with a 7800x3D and the ASUS TUF RX 7900 GRE OC Edition for 1440p gaming and love it. On the Benchmark 1.1 maxed settings I got the following: 1440p, I scored 20,976 pts, Average Frame Rate: 144.3171, Minimum Frame Rate: 91, Performance: Extremely High. 1080p, I scored 29,249 pts, Average Frame Rate: 201.413, Minimum Frame Rate: 98, Performance: Extremely High.
Oh if someone has screen flickering issues, or black screen issues after this. Make sure to check your memory type from Gpu-z, If it is hynix then enable fast timings for Memory. 😎
I’m getting a 5080
tie << 🥵 T i 😬👍
Living in a country where AC is rare and there are some hot days I went with the 7900 XTX almost a year ago now. I don't trust the 4080/4090 with that connector in my use case. What if the cable bends too much? What if I want to game with a 35c ambient? What if both apply?
i just keep booting into bios, please help
Thank you didn’t watch the ending about pl1 and 2 that you changed it lol now I’m all good thanks
Nice vid.
Thanks for the testing, I was wondering the driver overhead effects more recent CPUs and this video helped tremendously
Gonna be going to school for data science and machine learning. Would this be a good choice? (32gb RAM is what im thinking)
Asrock x870e nova and a 7800x3d. Will it work.?
Top community customer service
I have an i9 13900KF, z790 MB. I get the out of video memory. In the BIOS, I have to select "Sync all cores" for both E and P cores. Any other setting and I get a hard freeze when idle at the desktop. This makes the CPU run about 10 deg hotter, at 46deg cel. For some games like Hogwarts, I have to quickly set the affinity to run on 4 cores only. If I dont then Hogwarts crashes when it begins to download the shaders. Everything is stable now, just have the slightly hotter idle temps and having to set affinity when launching some games.
sir is this compatible with thinkpad L14 gen2?
will this card work with a gigabyte b50m c v2 ryzen 7
What A Pain all this is, I was going to get a 7950x & 2x32 6000 cl30, but I've decided I'd rather have the cooler running 12 core 7900. I doubt i'll ever want to overclock it, so should I get some cheaper lower speed ram 5200? like it says on the B6650 Tomahawk Box?
This video is outdated. I recommend searching for the newer videos I've done regarding DDR5. But if you want a trouble free system Get the 7900 + DDR5 5200. 6000 works fine but you have understand that it's an overclock.
You don't really do any research. Besides gigabyte is the worst company to buy. Their stuff breaks all the time and they won't give you warranty. It must be avoided at all cost.
This video kept me from smashing my skull against the wall and into oblivion so thank you sir for your service
You didn't run the benchmark long enough to hit the PL1 limit. That's quite a loss in performance. With a better cooler you can easily get 40K on CB R23, with throttling, or 38K with temps in the mid 80s. If you want to lower the temperatures, just enable Intel defaults and then adjust your maximum current draw. Try 307W (Intel's spec), and increase by 10W at a time until you're temps are too high or the system becomes unstable. Use CB R15 to properly test for instability.
Just snagged a taichi carrara for 385$ 👌 should be set until eol on am5
Where is the latency info?
I have troubles with 7800x3d 64gb cl30 30-36-36-76 i cant get ut stable on expo
What software is this and how so I access it new to computers😅
it looks like the bios (uefi) of a gigabyte motherboard. look up your motherboard brand and google how to enter the bios for that specific brand
This is pretty much what im looking for. I found an i7 version for $1k.... I want the AMD, but really tempted right now. What do you think?
The i7 version has worse battery life and also can't drive as many monitors if connecting external displays. It also runs the fans at a higher rpm because it uses more power. I'm guessing the one you are looking at has the 11th gen since that's the generation that the Ryzen 6000 directly competes with.
@@GameTechReviews great info, thanks, yeah I'll go AMD. Appreciate it!
So interesting to see the 7900xtx demolishing the 4080 Super. I've got a 4080 right now, moving to a 7900XTX for better linux support, but now I guess I'll benefit from much better FPS as well as getting some money back out of the swap. AMD keeps winning I guess? Thanks for running this, super helpful benchmarks!
870e and 670e are same? except for default usb4?
They are the same in the sense they both use the dual Promontory 21. However, the newer X870E might have better compatibility with higher speed DDR5.
I bought my 14900k in december and it's just now starting to fail me in June, 2024.. About to RMA this if I can.
Yes much better… up to 1999 on the CineBench. Thank you.
Thank you for the info, very insightful. Even down to the GTX 970 controversy. My only problem is that I am no obsessed with Celsius(55C or less), I want to max out games at certain resolutions but upgrading so that my room doesn't turn into a sauna. I did read in Reddit that maybe I should repaste my GTX 1080. I was actually going for an RX 7600 XT before making an entire newe computer in 2025, but so many benchmark videos have different Celsius outputs that throw me off. A side grade of course, since TechPowerUp puts it between the RTX 2080 and 2080 Super, but it's that L2 cache that helps in 1080p performance. Any thoughts?
Repasting the GTX 1080 is pointless. I don't advise doing that. That being said, the RX 7600 XT is still over 40% faster than the GTX 1080 while also doubling the amount of VRAM (16gb vs 8gb) so there is that. Power consumption is also pretty much identical.
@@GameTechReviews Thank you. Looking forward to your many reviews, awesome content.
Great content! Still have my Evga 1080ti, and unfortunately it's good for 1080p gaming. Sounds like you bought into the SLI ecosystem for Final Fantasy!
Glad to see that I'm going to be gaining over my 5950x... Only reason I need to upgrade to Threadripper is that I need more PCI-E lanes 😂 My 3090 is running at 8x, because I have too many NVME drives 😂
Cheers mate, got it working on an x670e aorus pro x with bios f23, had to plug in both 6 pins as was having some weird boot issues vga light was on, but after connecting the six pins it went away. I downloaded the drivers on the gigabyte website but the device only shows up as a universal serial bus controller with usb4 root router missing drivers. Any chance you could help me figure out what it is supposed to look like on windows?
I think the 5080 will be China Ban friendly and have 256 Bit Bus with 16 GB VRAM
192GB DDR 5? holy...... and Razen 9 or i9 that's too powerful PC
I love the way you explained the issue of placing 2 sticks vs 4 sticks and the A2 and B2 for only 2 sticks. Very good job, Sir.
Thank u, i have 13900K but i regret it, i think i ll buy 9950x
What happens to me everytime i try curve optimizer on different CPUs is that my computer is fully stable under load but also unstable while idling
screw nvidia
